Southern Alabama AHEC's mission is to enhance access to quality healthcare in rural and underserved communities. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who have a desire to improve healthcare access in rural Alabama. The SAAHEC Scholarship seeks to empower students who desire to pursue a degree or a certificate in a healthcare field with the goal of providing better care for communities in rural Alabama.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must
-
Be a graduating high school senior or GED recipient who has been accepted into a two- or four-year college or university
-
Have a minimum GPA of 3.2
-
Be pursuing a degree, certificate or training in the healthcare field and has interest in working in a rural area
-
Live and attend high school in Butler, Clarke, Conecuh, Covington, Crenshaw, Escambia, Monroe or Washington County

Submit a 300-500 word essay

Essay Guidelines
Please submit a 300-500 word essay describing the importance of improving healthcare access in rural areas. Alternatively, or in addition, describe why pursuing a health career providing care to communities in rural Alabama is appealing to you. This essay should not exceed 500 words and must be submitted prior to the application deadline.
