
Health Professions Students
Southern Alabama AHEC committed to expanding the health care workforce, maximizing diversity and facilitating distribution, especially in underserved communities. We offer support services for health profession students in college and university programs. We encourage students to schedule clinical rotations in Southern Alabama, provide reimbursements for rotation housing or mileage costs, promote the National Health Service Corsp (NHSC) and Nurse Corps programs, and more! Working with colleges, universities, and community partners, AHECs target economically disadvantaged students and those from underrepresented minority groups.

Finding A Preceptor
Having trouble finding a clinical preceptor for your required rotations? Southern Alabama AHEC can help! We assist in finding placement for primary care rotations including family, pediatric, OBGYN, and mental health. Forms can be downloaded from Homepage under Downloadable Forms.

Mileage and Housing Assistance
Graduate-level health profession students who have found a preceptor, are in the process of completing a rotation, or have already completed a rotation are eligible for mileage or housing assistance for their rotation. Forms can be downloaded on Homepage under Downloadable Forms.
NHSC and Nurse Corps
The SAAHEC staff serve as Ambassadors for NHSC and Nurse Corps. The programs provide scholarships and loan repayment opportunites to healthcare career students in exchange for serving in rural areas. Click here for more information.
