CLINICAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Students who are interested in primary care practice have an opportunity to complete clinical training opportunities in rural and/or under-served communities. Local health care providers in our service area serve as preceptors and benefit from the teaching experience while communities reaped the  benefits of having additional health care professionals to assist them during their need. It has been demonstrated that students who have enjoyed a rotation in rural and/or under-served community are more likely to practice in a similar setting upon completion of their degree. Southern  Alabama AHEC serves as an liaison between the students, academic institutions and medical facilities with our 10 County service area.

Health profession students are eligible to join the Community Based Experiential Program, which gives students:

  • an opportunity to schedule clinical rotations in Southern Alabama

  • access to mileage reimbursements or housing assistance

  • network with other students and health care professionals
