For our post-secondary, health professions students, who are currently enrolled in a two-year or longer degree or certification program, we invite you to apply for our AHEC Scholars' program.
Qualified applicants will be from the following disciplines:

Medical

Physician Assistant
-
Physical Therapy
-
Nursing
-
Social Work
-
Clinical Psychology
-
Other Allied Health (At least a 2 year program)

The program offers a curriculum designed for students to focus on six core topics that are critical for our future workforce:

Interprofessional Education (IPE) or Team-Based Training
-
Behavioral Health Integration
-
Social Determinants of Health
-
Cultural Competency as part of Patient-Centered Care
-
Practice Transformation
-
Current and Emerging Health Issues such as COVID-19, Opioid Crisis, etc.
The online classroom activities will utilize an online platform
such as:

Participants will receive 40 hours of didactic training and 40 hours of community-based experiential or clinical training (a total of 80 hours) each year of the program and will interact with other AHEC Scholars across Alabama.

Selected participants will receive:

$500 stipend for each year of the program (contingent upon funding)

Certificate of completion from SAAHEC

Free conference attendance opportunities. ​

Networking & professional and leadership development
Clinical training experiences will be inter-professional with at least one other healthcare discipline in an effort to better prepare health professional students to enter the workforce as part of a team.
